Premier League Team of the Week: Rooney partners Aguero up top as Ramsey continues hot streak

After some outstanding individual performances in the Premier League over the weekend, the Team of the Week takes shape with a healthy mix of youth and experience – as well as a goalscoring goalkeeper.
Yes, there was only going to be one man in contention for the No.1 jersey this week, with Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic (4.5) astonishingly scoring in the 1-1 draw with Southampton as his clearance from inside his own box carried in the wind before bouncing over Artur Boruc and landing in the back of the net.

At right-back, the ever-reliable Pablo Zabaleta (3.5) put in a solid shift in Manchester City’s thumping 7-0 victory over Norwich City, while Jan Vertonghen (4) takes the left-back berth following an impressive display during Tottenham’s goalless draw with Everton.

In the first top-flight south Wales derby, Cardiff came out on top against Swansea and the plaudits went to centre-back Steven Caulker (4), whose powerful header was the difference between the two sides.

The other centre-back position in Goal‘s team goes to Ciaran Clark (3.5), who put in a man-of-the-match display as Aston Villa came away from their meeting with West Ham at Upton Park with a draw.

We were spoilt for choice in midfield, with a number of contenders for the four positions available, but David Silva‘s (4.5) performance against Norwich made him an automatic selection along with City team-mate Yaya Toure (4) who scored with yet another curling free-kick.

James Ward-Prowse (4.5) continues to earn rave reviews for his top-drawer showings at high-flying Southampton and it was his pin-point cross that set-up the equaliser against Stoke on Saturday. The other midfield slot goes to Aaron Ramsey (4) – who helped seal victory for Arsenal over Liverpool with a terrific long-range strike.

There’s also plenty of competition for the two striker spots, with the likes of Robin van Persie and Loic Remy unfortunate to miss out, but it’s Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney (4), who grabbed a goal and an assist in his side’s 3-1 win over Fulham, and the ever-brilliant Sergio Aguero (4) who get the nod.
