Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure will appear in court later this month after being charged with drink driving.
Toure was pulled over by police in Dagenham, east London, at around 23:00 UK time on November 29, three days after City’s 2-1 victory at Burnley in the Premier League.
Toure was arrested after being breathalysed at the side of the road.
He was then breathalysed once again after being taken to a local station.
The Met released a statement on Saturday afternoon confirming the details of the incident:
“Yaya Toure, 33, of Macclesfield, Cheshire, was charged on Tuesday November 29 with a driving offence, namely driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol level above the legal limit.
“He will appear on bail at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 13. The charge follows a stop of a car in Dagenham at around 11pm on Monday, November 28.”
Toure has only recently returned to City’s starting line-up after being frozen out of the squad for nearly three months following comments made by his controversial agent, Dmitri Seluk.
The Ivorian was introduced as a late substitute on Saturday as City lost 3-1 to Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City have declined to comment.
